The Kappa Sigma chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was chartered on the WSU campus on May 22, 1976.

Founded on the steps of Minor Hall on the campus of Howard University on January 15, 1908, 20 truly distinguished women began the journey to create the first historically Black Greek letter sorority. Sticking true to the organization's purpose of "Service to All Mankind," the Kappa Sigma chapter has served the WSU community through continuous service at food banks, senior living facilities, and the V.I.B.E.S. conference which is held on campus. Programs held by the chapter have included a natural hair forum, Zumba sessions, environmentally conscious beauty products workshop, and alcohol awareness.
